Counselling presents the opportunity to truly be heard and brainstorm effective solutions.
Counselling facilitates change. Most people pursue counselling because they are lost, stuck or unhappy; they are smart enough to know they feel this way and have the courage to seek help.
Counselling presents the opportunity to truly be heard and brainstorm effective solutions.
Counselling assists people in becoming aware of what’s happening within them and within their relationships so they can best decide what needs to change and how to initiate this change.
Counselling is not merely a (one-way) conversation; it is where the client discusses his or her issues in an atmosphere of confidentiality and non-judgment and where collaborative options are discovered and put into action.
Counselling is not directive or a dictating of what to do or how to be, however, the counsellor may offer suggestions based on theory, practice and experience, however, the client is the expert of his/her own life.

Registered Clinical Counsellor | Individual, Couples & Family Counselling
Life can bring seasons when we feel overwhelmed, disconnected, uncertain or simply unsure of how to move forward. Having a safe and supportive place to talk openly can make an important difference.
Donna Hope is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) who provides compassionate, trauma-informed counselling for individuals, couples and families. She creates a warm, respectful and non-judgmental environment where clients can explore difficult experiences, better understand themselves and their relationships, and develop meaningful strategies for healing, growth and change.
Donna works with clients experiencing anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship and attachment concerns, communication difficulties, emotional regulation challenges and complex family dynamics. Her therapeutic approach is relational, collaborative, culturally responsive and strengths-based, recognizing that every client's experiences, relationships and path toward healing are unique.
Relationships are a particular area of Donna's experience and passion. She has dedicated more than 1,000 hours to supporting over 300 couples through Couple Communication programs, workshops and facilitator mentorship.
This extensive experience has given Donna a deep understanding of relationship dynamics, communication patterns and conflict resolution. She works with couples seeking to improve communication, navigate conflict, rebuild trust, deepen emotional connection and develop healthier ways of relating to one another.
Whether a relationship is experiencing a difficult period or a couple simply wants to strengthen the connection they already share, Donna provides a supportive environment where both partners can feel heard and work toward greater understanding.
Donna's clinical interests also include trauma recovery, anxiety, grief, emotional regulation, attachment concerns and significant life transitions. Her trauma-informed approach recognizes the impact that past and present experiences can have on emotional well-being, relationships and the way we respond to life's challenges.
Donna also brings valuable crisis-support experience from more than three and a half years of volunteer service with Distress Centre Calgary, where she developed additional experience in crisis intervention, trauma support, suicide risk assessment, compassionate listening and resource navigation.
Donna holds a Master of Arts in Applied Psychology with Distinction, as well as undergraduate degrees in Theology and Leadership. Her additional education includes a Certificate in Child & Adolescent Psychology and certification as a facilitator in Interpersonal Communications and Couple Communication I.
With more than 26 years of experience teaching, mentoring and supporting youth and adults, Donna brings a combination of clinical knowledge, relationship expertise and genuine compassion to her counselling practice.
At the heart of Donna's work is a belief that healing often takes place within safe and authentic relationships. She works alongside her clients with warmth, curiosity and respect, helping them recognize their strengths, develop greater self-awareness, strengthen important relationships and move toward lasting, meaningful change.
Donna welcomes individuals and couples seeking counselling in Port Moody and the Tri-Cities, including Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam.
